STNM Board of Directors
STNM’s all-volunteer Board of Directors is elected by the STNM membership each year. The Annual Membership Meeting is held each March and regular Board Meetings are held each quarter for the remainder of the year. Our members are welcome to attend the Annual membership and quarterly board meetings.

Juba Addison - las cruces

Juba learned the art of storytelling from her grandmother Sarah Jane, a descendant of West African Griots. She is dedicated to performing, preserving and promoting traditional storytelling. As a teaching artist, Juba encourages everyone to tell their story.

VICE PRESIDENT COMMUNICATIONS
Sarah Malone is a bilingual storyteller who has woven tales for children and adults for over 30 years. Through storytelling, Sarah breathes life into words – drawing the listener into another realm through the powerful relationship between storyteller and listener. She is a published author, recording artist, and a founding member of Storytellers of New Mexico and currently co-produces Duke City Story Slam (DCSS). Sarah received the National Storytelling Network 2017 Oracle Award for Service & Leadership. Given her work with STNM she no longer keeps a separate website.
Elaine Muray

OF PROGRAMMING
Elaine Muray integrates movement and narration to deliver tales from around the world as well as personal stories. She offers both virtual and live performances. Elaine has performed and conducted residencies and workshops both nationally and internationally, including storytelling tours to China, Korea, Colombia, Peru and Ecuador. Elaine has over 15 years instructional experience as an ESL instructor. In prior years she has served on both the National Storytelling Network Board of Directors as well as STNM.

Dianne enjoys sharing old stories: origin myths, traditional tales, and generational histories…. integrated with her abiding interest in family, nature, and the power of a good story. She’s a long time STNM member, and producer of ABQ FOLK FEST’s Storytelling Stage. As a Board member and Treasurer, she’s eager to muster her accounting skills in service of STNM’s mission.

Doug is a retired teacher of deaf and gifted students. He has been a member and officer of Storytellers of Las Cruces for fifteen years. His storytelling sessions involve a great deal of audience participation, with members of the audience assuming the roles of characters. Doug is transitioning from an At-Large Board member to Treasurer this year.
Eldrena Douma - laguna pueblo/amarillo, tx.

Growing up in New Mexico & Arizona among her Pueblo tribes of the Laguna, Tewa & Hopi. Growing up, her life with family and friends always included sharing pueblo stories, songs, teachable tales, and family history including both humorous and serious personal stories. Now as a professional storyteller and educator, Eldrena offers captivating stories, a variety of recorded music and historical accounts from American Indians tribes across the country. Eldrena is transitioning from an At-Large Board Member to Membership Coordinator this year.
MICHELLE ADAM - corrales

Michelle Adam has always been a storyteller, spinning tales and telling stories as a child growing up in Switzerland, Spain, and the U.S. She’s worked as a journalist, professional writer, and educator in the schools for 25-plus years, and now has launched a series of bilingual Children´s Stories (in a unique Kamishibai storytelling tradition) that she shares in storytelling venues throughout New Mexico. Michelle has performed with Flamenco musicians and sound healers on the West Coast and New Mexico, in addition to Argentina and Spain. She remains on the board in an At-Large position.

Dusty Deen as At-Large Board Member (Albuquerque) Dusty has been actively involved with STNM through ABQ Storycrafting and Duke City Story Slam since summer 2023. He is a professional animator and filmmaker. Dusty won the top teller award at the Nov. 2023 Duke City Story Slam (Theme, Two Roads Diverging). Dusty hopes to support STNM/DCSS programmatically, but also to help out with social media, including film opportunities to publish some of our work on the STNM You Tube channel and public access television.

Chris began his storytelling journey years ago when he told nightly “Papa Stories” to his children. Chris joined STNM after attending a storytelling skills workshop through ABQ Storycrafting in September and went on to write/edit/rehearse and perform a solo story about his journey with deafness, culminating in the decision to obtain a cochlear implant. As a board member, Chris hopes to support STNM’s programs, with a special interest in attracting members of the deaf community, along with ASL student interpreters to STNM events. He has a newfound passion for storytelling.

Swim first engaged with STNM when Duke City Story Slam (DCSS) made its debut in 2018. A frequent featured and open mid teller at the slam, Swim became the regular emcee for DCSS in November 2023. Recently, he agreed to co-produce DCSS. As a board member he is thrilled to continue the legacy of story in New Mexico and beyond.
PAULINA PRZYSTUPA - ABQ

Paulina is a Filipine-Polish, Canadian-born immigrant to America. Paulina enjoys storytelling in many forms, from live events, to recorded audiobooks, to those told by the materials we leave behind. Paulina’s involvement with STNM began with attending Duke City Story Slam on a whim after catching the listing on a local events calendar. Paulina kept up with DCSS, telling a live open-mic story in January 2020, became a regular teller and attendee of Stories-at-a-Distance, and rejoined the events in-person as a teller and audience member. Paulina recently joined STNM as a professional teller and is excited to do even more for the organization through serving on the board of directors
REGINA RESS- SANTA FE

Regina has been a professional storyteller for 30 years, with experience with all ages and in a wide variety of settings in the US and abroad. She teaches applied storytelling at NYU and produces a long running storytelling series there. She was on the Board of the NYC Storytelling Center for 15 years and has been on the STNM Board for the past 5 years. Regina co-hosts the popular monthly Santa Fe Storycrafters, on Zoom.
FLO TRUJILLO - FARMINGTON

Flo Trujillo as At-Large Board Member (Farmington) Flo is a retired Youth Services Coordinator at the Farmington Library for 30 years. She is renowned as the Four Corners Storytelling Festival organizer and youth storyteller mentor. Currently, Library Outreach Advisor for the STAR Net STEAM Equity Project, an initiative of the Space Science Institute, American Library Association. President of REFORMA New Mexico and the Northwest New Mexico Arts Council. Board member at the National Hispanic Cultural Center, Creative New Mexico, New Mexico Out of School Time Network, as NM Afterschool Ambassador, emeritus. Mentored youth storytellers to travel state-wide (some bilingual) and presented at Growers Markets, Afterschool Dia Family Celebrations and at the National Hispanic Cultural Center. Recipient of the NM Reading Association Literacy Award and the Annie E. Casey Literacy Award. Published Navajo/English Poetry book with the arts council, art and poetry by Navajo Prep students. Bilingual Fingerplay book in Spanish/English and Navajo/English language for early childhood. A member of STNM since its inception, and a former Board President, Flo hopes to support STNM programming and excellence, especially any youth storytelling initiatives, community-based storytelling events statewide, including those directed at Spanish-speaking audiences. She may draw upon STNM to provide storytellers for events in Farmington.
